Women's Ministry

Women’s Ministry: “When we invest in women, we are investing not just in them but in their families, communities, and the next generation."

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.

Proverbs 31:25

The Women's Ministry at Smith Street Baptist Church is for all women - no matter your age, background or life stage. We want to meet ladies right where they are and come along side them - encouraging, supporting, praying and equipping them in their journey with God. We want to grow our faith and demonstrate His love and grace through our lives and relationships. We want deeper, Christ-centered relationships with each other through women's small groups (18 and older), prayer meetings, fellowships and mentoring.  We want to encourage and equip women to faithfully and fully use their God-given gifts to glorify God.  As we worship and serve the Lord together, we want every woman to feel loved and accepted for who she is in Christ so that she is transformed and empowered to live out Christ's love and grace.
The 4 Pillars of Women’s Ministry:
  • Study – We must provide women the opportunity to study God’s Word.
2 Timothy 3:16-17(ESV), “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”
  • Service – Women need opportunities to serve others.
Doing so together, as the body of Christ, builds unity, encourages growth, and develops relationship. 1 Peter 4:10 (ESV), “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”
  • Support – Women need safe places where they can find Biblically-sound support.
This could come in the form of support groups such as Grief Share, mentoring, or interest groups such as TRIBES. Ecclesiastes 4:10 (ESV), “For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!” We have a list of great resources and references that we can connect you with. Reach out to us today!
  • Social – Women benefit by regularly meeting together with other believers.
Offer opportunities for Christian friendships to form and mature. Hebrews 10:25 (ESV), “Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

Get Connected. Go Deeper. (18 and older)

For the past 6 years, Smith Street Baptist Church has partnered  with REAL Discipleship Ministries  offering Women's Bible Study every first and third Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm. Tribes are small groups of women who follow Jesus Christ. We are actively in pursuit of our relationship with God. We offer accountability and encouragement for obedience in knowing God’s Word and being with God’s people.  Smith Street currently has two separate tribes "Turquoise Blue" led by Belinda Griffee and "Turquoise Green" led by April worth. previous studies

We absolutely love digging into God's Word together. Here is a list of some of our previous studies that we encourage you to do. SSBC women are currently navigating through books of the Bible utilizing the HEAR method and verse mapping. We have just completed the book of Ephesians and are heading into Colossians. We have witnessed exponential growth and we are excited to continue on this adventure through scripture.
WHAT IS VERSE MAPPING?
Verse mapping is a technique used to gain a deeper understanding of God's word.  It is a method of breaking down a verse by identifying and defining keywords, historical context, alternate translations, and cross references.  Verse mapping goes beyond just reading.  It digs deep into scripture revealing connections, consistencies and truths in the Bible that are so easily overlooked.
What is the H.E.A.R. Method
“The H.E.A.R. Method promotes reading the Bible with a life-transforming purpose. No longer will your focus be on checking off boxes on your daily reading schedule; your purpose will instead be to read in order to understand and respond to God’s Word.” -Robby Gallaty from his book Growing Up

H.E.A.R. is an acronym that stands for Highlight, Explain, Apply, and Respond. These are the four steps you will use each time you sit down to study God’s Word. Below are the five steps of the H.E.A.R. Method as taught by Robby Gallaty in his book, Growing Up.

Pray
Before beginning, take a moment and pray for the Holy Spirit to guide and teach you as you read God’s Word. “We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.” 1 Corinthians 2:13 CSB

Highlight
As you are reading the passage, watch for the one or two verses that stand out or speak to you. Write an “H” on the left of your paper and then write out the verse or verses the Holy Spirit drew you to.

Explain
Below the “H”, write an “E”. Now you will write a few sentences that will explain what the text means. Remember, we are looking for the original authors message to the original recipient. Ask questions like: Why was this written? To whom was it originally written? How does this fit with the verses before and after? Why did the Holy Spirit include this passage in the book?

Apply
Below the “E”, write an “A”. We will now take the truth from the first century (or earlier if you are reading the Old Testament) and try to apply it to the twenty first century. Ask questions like: How can this help me? What does this mean today? What would the application of this verse look like in my life? What is God saying to me?

Respond
This is where you will write a measurable response to the truth God revealed. Maybe it will be a call to action, something you will change in the coming week. Maybe it will be a prayer asking God to help you work this truth into your life. Whichever, make sure it is measurable so you can hold yourself accountable in your growth as a disciple.

We do life together

No matter where we are in our faith, fellowship provides us through our faith with God’s love. Being around different Christian women allows us to learn and develop in our confidence. It shows us why we accept others, and, some of the time, is the amazing nourishment for our spirits. It’s extraordinary to be out on the whole world evangelizing to other people, however, it can without much of a stretch make us hard and consume our quality. When we manage a hard-hearted world, it can turn out to be anything but difficult to fall into that remorselessness and question our faiths. It’s in every case great to invest some energy in fellowship with the goal that we recall that God makes us solid. It also establishes a firm foundation of accountability.

Meeting with Christian women is an extraordinary route for every one of us to develop in our faith. Reading our Bibles and praying are incredible approaches to draw nearer to God, yet every one of us has vital exercises to bestow to each other. When we meet in the fellowship, we show each other things. God gives us an endowment of learning and developing when we meet in the fellowship we tell each other the best way to live as God needs us to live, and how to stroll in His strides.

Spending time with other Christian women can often lift us up a little bit. They encourage us to keep our eyes on God. He also works through them to provide us with what we need in darker times. Meeting with others can help in our recuperating procedure and give us the consolation to push ahead.
